Practice FAQ

When can I book practices?

Four Practices for the 2019 season may be booked beginning May 21. First come, first served.

How do I log in to book practices?

Once your team has registered, and booking opens, you may book  online. Your email address becomes your Username.  Enter your Team Name and Number and include the password Ramsey.  First come, first served. You will see different time slots and it will let you know available times. Choose your time slots, and an email will be generated when you are approved.

When can we practice?

Lake practices run Monday through Thursday evenings from June 3 to July 11, 2019. The first practice time slot is 6 p.m. and the last time slot is 8:00 p.m. In extenuating circumstances, a practice may be held at 8:15 pm. Check with the Festival Administrator for more information. Out-of-town teams are welcome to practice on Friday, July 12. All equipment is provided. The docks are located at the Northern Water Sports Centre, 206 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury, Ontario.

How many practices do we have?

Four practices are included in the registration fee per local team. Most teams practice once per week. Extra practices may be purchased for $40 each or as bundles. Visit our Extended Lake Training Program page to learn more.

How do we pay for extra practices?
Payments may be made by cash or cheque (preferred). Cheques are payable to Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival and should be mailed to: SDBF, 206 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury, Ontario, P3E 5J1.  Kindly remit payment for extra practices before your first practice. Email us for an invoice or receipt.

How long are practices?

Each practice is 45 minutes in duration. If you have a late start, your team must still return to the dock at the scheduled time.

Where do lake practices take place?

Practices take place at the Northern Water Sports Centre, 206 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury, Ontario. Click here for a map.

When should my team arrive for practice?

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your practice. This helps allow practices to start on time.

Where do we park for practice?

Parking is available at the Northern Water Sports Centre, however, we encourage car pooling as there is limited parking on site. Teams can also park in the adjacent boat launch parking lot. Follow the path to reach the NWSC building from the boat launch. Accessibility parking will be available on NWSC premises. 

Do we need to bring anything to practice?

Paddles and life jackets are provided.

What should we wear to practice?

Be sure to dress for the weather conditions. You will get wet during practices, so quick-dry clothes are a good choice. Please do not bring valuables to practice. The Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival is not liable for any loss or theft.

Are practices cancelled if it rains?

No. Practices are not cancelled in the event of rain. The only situation where a practice may be rescheduled is in the case of lightning. Typically, these decisions are made on site.
