Registration includes:

  • All equipment (boats, paddles, PFDs) for team members
  • Coaching and steering clinics offered through experienced instructors
  • Four Free lake practices. Additional practices available at a prescribed fee.
  • Challenge Series Cups provide opportunity for friendly competition against other teams within your chosen category
  • Team Spirit; compete for more than just racing, by creating a positive enthusiastic team in the park on race day.
  • Opportunity to support the annual charity meets their fundraising goals for their capital campaign.

Festival Info

Where does the Festival take place?
The Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival is held at Bell Park in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The park may be accessed near the intersections of Paris and York Street, and Paris and Boland) Parking is available at both locations. The finish line will be best viewed from the shoreline near the Grace Hartman Amphitheater. Please be aware of the park rules.
Where can I park?

We encourage car pooling, cycling, and public transportation are encouraged. Limited, free off-site parking is available at the corner of York and Paris Streets for the public and the parking lot at the old hospital site (Paris and Boland). Are main parking lots closed?

Yes, the Elizabeth Street parking lot as well as the main beach parking lot is restricted for the day.  Cars parked illegally in the surrounding areas may be ticketed and/or towed.

Is there a fee to attend the festival?

This event is free for spectators. The public is encouraged to attend and cheer on the teams!

Is there entertainment on site?

In addition to the dragon-boat races, there are a number of activities taking place for the whole family. Click here for information.

Race Info

When does the racing start?

Races begin at approximately 9:00 a.m. the day of the race and continue until approximately 4:30 p.m. that day.  What happens if it rains? Unless there is if lightning or very high winds, races will proceed as scheduled.

Where is the best view of the races?
The finish line is located at the Grace Hartman Amphitheater, end of the park so that’s the most popular spot for viewing, but, bring a lawn chair or blanket and you can vary your viewpoints.
When is the Opening Ceremony?
We do not hold opening ceremonies every year. Check back to see our updated plans for 2017.
When are the Award Ceremonies?
Awards are presented during the Awards Ceremony, within a half hour of the completion of races for the day. This is usually between 4:30 pm and 5:00 p.m. in the Dragon’s Den.

I’m a visitor to Sudbury, where should I stay?

You’ll find everything you need to plan your visit at sudburytourism.ca.

Will there be food and refreshments available on site?

Vendors will offer a variety of food and beverages on race day.

Is there somewhere that I can store my belongings during the day?
There are no lockers available on site.
Is there an ATM available on site?
The closest ATM is located at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre, which is on park property, but, at the opposite end of the park from the festival.
